Outspoken news anchor Tomi Lahren is doubling down on her controversial comments about race relations — issuing some new opinions sure to stir up the same controversy that’s led more than 50,000 people to sign a petition demanding she be fired from her job.
Lahren, 23, a host for The Blaze, appeared on her daily segment “Final Thoughts” on Tuesday and blamed President Obama (whom she called “Barry”) and “two black attorney generals” for the country’s mounting racial tensions.
“Almost eight years in office and two black attorney generals as head of the Justice Department, and where are we today?” Lahren asked. “We are more divided now than ever before.”
Lahren then proceeded to give her viewers a history lesson on race relations in America. She argued that minority communities have never trusted police, that officers have generally “dealt” with the ensuing distress, and that today, everything has been “reduced to race.”
Alluding to Barack Obama’s speech after the Dallas shootings, she denounced the “rush” to blame white cops for escalating tensions at the same time as the liberal intelligentsia refused to name the “ideology behind radical Islam terrorism” or to question the tone of the Black Lives Matter movement.
According to Lahren, the alleged Dallas shooter Micah Johnson who killed five police officers last week did not just have a “troubled mind”, as the president suggested, but was spurred on by the anti-cops and anti-white rhetoric of BLM
Lahren’s latest controversial statements come after she stirred the pot last week by calling the Black Lives Matter movement “the new KKK.” Then Sunday on CNN she had an altercation with a Baltimore Sun columnist who vigorously denounced her. The online petition seeking her removal from The Blaze now has more than 50,000 signatures.
On CNN, Lahren said she was entitled to her opinion and that she is “not a journalist.”
On Monday, Blaze boss Glenn Beck reiterated his unwavering support for Lahren in a long Medium post addressing the calls to fire her. He explained that, although he might at times disagree with the positions of the some of his colleagues, he would “never cave to a boycott or a protest or fire someone for their voicing their opinion”.
“The only speech that needs defending is the speech we disagree with,” he wrote “We all must have the right to be wrong without someone wanting to destroy or kill us.”
